A delegation from Jincheng, in China, visited the Sarah Baartman District Municipality from the 21st to the 22nd of June 2016. During the visit, the delegation spent time in Addo, in the Sundays River Valley, while they also visited the Addo Primary School in Valencia. As a result of this engagement, the education system in the Sarah Baartman District has received much needed practical support by means of valuable teaching tools.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed during the visit and will give way to further initiatives such as a student exchange programme, a skills development programme and practical ways to trade and investment between the two entities. It is expected that the first exchange of students from China will take place in August 2016.

"We are so very pleased about the invaluable support that our education system is receiving at the hands of the Jincheng municipality. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire delegation for sharing in our passion of seeing this district prosper," said the Executive Mayor of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Khunjuzwa Eunice Kenana during a special Council meeting that was held on the 21st of June.

In 2008, the District Municipality embarked in a ‘Friendship City’ relationship with Jincheng City, Peoples Republic of China. The purpose of the initial agreement was to develop an understanding towards the establishment of a partnership of mutual co-operation between Jincheng City and the erstwhile Cacadu District.
