The Cacadu District Municipality, led by Executive Mayor, Cllr Khunjuzwa Eunice Kekana, together with the Speaker, Cllr Deon de Vos, and councillors recently braved the cold during a handover of fire trucks and other fire-fighting equipment to the value of over R6 million to the Makana, Baviaans and Camdeboo Local Municipalities.

The purchase and handover by the Cacadu District Municipality is aimed at improving the disaster management and fire-fighting services in their areas.

During the handover ceremony held in Makana Local Municipality at the City Hall in Grahamstown on the 16th of July, Executive Mayor Kekana elaborated on the need for disaster management preparedness in the District after she assisted with flooding in the Kouga and Kou-Kamma Local Municipalities over the weekend of the 14th and 15th of July.

“We are very honoured to receive this equipment and would like to thank the Cacadu District Municipality for its generosity,” described the Makana Local Municipality Mayor, Zamuxolo Peter, adding that it will go a long way towards building capacity within the local Disaster Management Department.
