Index Chinese visit to the Cacadu District Municipality

The Executive Mayor, Khunjuzwa Kekana, and councillors of the Cacadu District Municipality, recently hosted a delegation from Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, in China. The purpose of the visit was to enter into a memorandum of understanding, thereby strengthening the bi-lateral ties between the City of Jincheng and the Cacadu District Municipality.

The memorandum of understanding specifies the advancement of cooperation between the two entities in the fields of economics, trade, energy, tourism, science and technology, health care and education, amongst others.

Senior Consultor of Jincheng Municipal People’s Government, Zhang Jiuping, made specific mention of the very successful silk industry in Jincheng City, in relation to the high volumes of mohair produced in the Cacadu District, and the possibility of linking these two industries, thereby further the cooperation between the two entities.

Executive Mayor of the Cacadu District Municipality, Khunjuzwa Kekana, said, “The Cacadu District Municipality is honoured by the interest shown in the District by the delegation from the Shanxi Province. We wish to reap the benefits of this agreement with a view to uplift the communities in the Cacadu District”.

During the 2-day long stay, the delegation visited a game reserve near Grahamstown and a mohair processing plant, while they also met with representatives of the citrus industry, Mohair SA and other business industries in the Cacadu District. The visit was concluded with a meeting at the Coega Development Corporation and a tour of the Industrial Development Zone.

The Cacadu District Municipality and Jincheng City has had a twin city agreement in place since 2008. Jincheng City, located in the southeast of the Shanxi Province, in the middle of north China, has a population of 2.28 million people and covers an area of 9490 km². The city has a considerable amount of natural resources and reserves, amongst which are anthracite, coal, dolomite and limestone.
