Learners at Vusumzi Primary greeting the Executive Mayor as she enters the classroom.

Executive Mayor of the Cacadu District Municipality, Khunjuzwa Eunice Kekana, together with Councillor Notizi Vanda and the Special Programmes Unit of Cacadu District Municipality visited two schools in the Sundays River Valley Local Municipal area yesterday. The purpose of the visit to the schools, namely Bukani Primary and Vusumzi Primary in Addo, was to assess the status of the schools and to ascertain whether there are urgent interventions needed to assist learners and educators in the area.

While visiting the schools, the Principals were each given a chance to state any challenges the school experiences. It was found that both Bukani and Vusumzi Primary faces issues related to water, infrastructure, slow delivery of books and general shortages of books, amongst other things. The Executive Mayor has already committed to supplying the Grade R classes at Vusumzi Primary with suitable chairs for the learners, while a fund raising project has been started at the Cacadu District Municipality in order to purchase much needed school shoes for needy learners.
