Index State of the Province Address 2014

Recently the Premier of the Eastern Cape, Noxolo Kiviet, delivered the State of the Province Address. The Cacadu District Municipality, together with the Office of the Premier, organized a public viewing in Klipplaat in the Ikwezi Local Municipality.

Present at this occasion was the Speaker of the Cacadu District Municipality, Cllr Deon De Vos and the Mayor Ikwezi, Cllr Sizwe Mngwevu. The Premier also agreed with the President of the country that we truly have come a long way as a nation and have a good story to tell, more so in the Eastern Cape.

She was very pleased to announce that the Expanded Public Works Program saved over 5000 jobs in the manufacturing sector. There were a number of other developments mentioned by the Premier, all adding value to the economy of the Eastern Cape.

Over 12012 new SMMEs were established and are being supported by government. In the Eastern Cape, 61000 houses were built in 2013, emphasizing the fact that we have a good story to tell in this Province. The Premier urged the youth of the Eastern Cape to take care and value the 30 community libraries that were built and 55 that were renovated.

According to the Premier, during the past 5 years, R11 billion was spent on repairing roads in the Province, including the road between Port Elizabeth and Graaff-Reinette and the road leading to Cookhouse. More people have access to clean water and sanitation in the Provence, while 38 percent more have access to electricity in rural areas.

The Premier also made mention of the crime rate that has decreased by 4% in the Province. In conclusion, he Premier thanked the communities of the Eastern Cape for working together with government to make the Eastern Cape the best place to live.
