Index Stakeholder session in Paterson

On the 27th of March 2014, the Cacadu District Municipality, together with the Office of the Premier, hosted a stakeholder session at the Paterson Community Hall, in the Sundays River Valley Local Municipality. The purpose of the session was to interact with stakeholders about the 2014 State of the Province Address and gain input from those present. Present at the session, amongst others, was the Speaker of the Cacadu District Municipality, Cllr Deon De Vos, Executive Mayor of the Cacadu District Municipality, Cllr Khunjuzwa Kekana and the Eastern Cape Premier, Noxolo Kiviet, who was also the guest of honour, addressing the communities of the Cacadu District. Stakeholders from the nine local municipalities located within the Cacadu District were represented at this engagement and given an opportunity to address the Premier in order to bring community related problems to her and the delegation’s attention.

Among the matters addressed by several representatives was the problem of water quality and availability in the Cacadu District. Housing and land was also mentioned as a great concern in many areas, while the state of education, health care, crime, corruption and unemployment came to the fore as critical issues that effects the majority of communities in the District.

Many representatives showed appreciation for what has been done in the Eastern Cape so far since the dawn of democracy 20 years ago. During the session, the Speaker of the District and Premier Kiviet reassured the community that all the issues raised were recorded and would be attended to in due course.
