Sarah Baartman District Health Council Constituted
In a meeting held today the Executive Mayor, Cllr Deon De Vos, constituted the establishment of the District Health Council (DHC). The National Health Act 61 of 2003, chapter 5 requires that the DHC be established during each political term and expires after 5 years. The SBDM Council was elected after the Local Government Elections in November 2021, thus the DHC's 5 years will be concurrent to the SBDM Council's term.
Some of the functions of the DHC include:
- Promotion of cooperative governance.
- Ensure coordination of planning, budgeting, provision and monitoring of all health services that affect residents of the district.
The DHC is chaired by the Portfolio Councillor of Infrastructure and Community Services, Cllr Phindile Faxi, and consists of representatives from all seven local municipalities.
