SBDM Strengthens Local Municipalities Through Vehicle Donations

14 August 2026

Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM) has continued its commitment to supporting local municipalities with limited fleet resources through the donation of eight vehicles to four municipalities in the district.

The vehicles, which were previously part of the District Municipality’s fleet and were no longer required for its operations, have been donated to municipalities that face challenges with fleet availability. The initiative follows a decision by the SBDM Council to ensure that these assets continue to provide value and support service delivery within the district, rather than being auctioned.

The SBDM Executive Mayor officially handed over the vehicles during two separate handover events. Blue Crane Route Municipality received a Ford Ikon and a Chevrolet Aveo received by Mayor Bonisile Manxoweni, while Mayor Willem Safers from Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality received a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Corolla on 6 August 2026 on behalf of his municipality.

In a subsequent handover on 14 August 2026, Koukamma Local Municipality received two Toyota Hilux vehicles, which were received by Mayor Sam Vuso. Ndlambe Local Municipality received a Toyota Hilux and a Volvo XC60, received by Speaker Andile Marasi.

The donated vehicles will now become part of the respective municipalities’ fleets and will be utilised to support their day-to-day operations and service delivery responsibilities.
